If you're in the midst of planning a wedding, you know just how many details you have to attend to.  There's picking out the venue, flowers, decorations, and so much more.  However, one of the most important aspects of the event is your reception.  You want your reception to be a time where you, your mate, and all of the guests can let your hair down and have a great time.  A vital part of the reception is the food.  If you're having the occasion catered you'll likely be asked what type of menu you want.  Use this information to learn more about two tips that can help you select the perfect menu for your big day.

Opt For Finger Foods

The first thing you should do when planning a reception menu is go for a theme.  This helps the caterer narrow down the type of foods they will make for the event.  While you may think a theme means you want Mexican, Chinese or Caribbean food, it can also refer to the style of the dishes.  That's where finger foods come into play.

Finger foods are absolutely perfect for receptions.  They are small enough that they can be easily carried as guests mingle amongst each other.  They won't feel encumbered with heavy foods that require a full plate to eat properly.  You can go with a large number of finger foods that include items that are sure to whet the appetite of the invitees.

For example, if you want your caterer to make strictly Mexican foods, have them do mini tacos, quesadilla bites and chorizo sausage on a stick.  The guests will be delighted when they view the buffet and see such a large display of finger foods for them to enjoy.

Be Mindful Of Guest Restrictions

Another tip you can use when selecting your menu is to be mindful of certain dietary restrictions that your guests might have.  While the day is certainly all about you and your spouse, you also don't want to alienate the people who came to watch the nuptials.

Ask your caterer to include vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and nut-free fare.  Your attendees are sure to be pleased that you did.

Selecting a great menu for your reception doesn't have to be difficult if you just know what to do.  When you're planning your reception, keep these tips in mind so you can have an incredible menu that everyone is sure to love.
